DON'T Make this First Dance Mistake!

We know there are SO many wedding details bouncing around your brain - so don't let this one fall through the cracks!

You’ve worked hard on your First Dance, spending hours perfecting every move and pouring your heart into this envisioned, magical moment. So imagine this... the moment arrives, the music plays, and you and your partner glide onto the dance floor. The dance is flawless—exactly as you envisioned.

But there’s one HUGE problem… no one captured it! OMG. In the excitement of the big reveal, not a single video or professional shot of your beautiful dance exists... because no one knew to expect it!

Unfortunately, this isn’t just a hypothetical situation. It happens more often than you’d think! Couples are so focused on surprising their guests that they forget to inform key people behind the scenes. Don’t let that be you!

Here’s how to make sure everything goes smoothly (even with a secret dance!):

  1. Tell Your Photographer/Videographer Even if you want to keep your dance under wraps, your photographer and videographer should be in on the secret. Let them know when your First Dance will take place and that it’s choreographed, so they can capture every special moment. You’ll want those memories documented!

  2. Inform the DJ About Your Song Your DJ needs to know that your song is part of a choreographed routine. Provide them with the exact version of the song you’ve been practicing to, so there are NO surprises when you hit the dance floor. A slight change in tempo or length can throw off everything!

  3. Double-Check the Timing Timing is everything! Make sure your DJ is aware of any specific cues in the music, so the lights, announcements, and music all align perfectly with your routine. A little communication goes a long way in ensuring a seamless performance.

  4. Let Key People in on the Secret While it’s tempting to keep your dance a total mystery, it’s smart to loop in a few trusted individuals (like your Maid of Honor, Best Man, AND definitely your Wedding Planner!). They can help make sure the moment gets the attention it deserves— cue up guests, and ensure the band and/or DJ is ready to go!

Remember, while the surprise element is fun, the ultimate goal is to enjoy and preserve the memory of your special First Dance. A little behind-the-scenes coordination can ensure your performance is as picture-perfect as your love story.

Happy Dancing!
