Maren Waldman, Instructor

Maren has a life-long love for dance. She’s a choreographer, performer, scholar, educator, entrepreneur, and she earned an MFA in Dance from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2014. She’s especially interested in dance as healing and is investigating ways dance inspires action for a more sustainable world. She’s trained professionally in many dance forms, including Modern, Jazz, Transnational Fusion, and Samba. Maren fell in love with swing dance in 1998, and has been teaching it almost since she started! Maren specializes in all varieties of Swing Dance and Salsa. She is also trained in Waltz, Foxtrot, Country Two-step, and Night-club Two-step. Maren loves to apply her vast background to design a dance that’s perfect for her clients. When she’s not dancing, you might find her cooking, hiking, writing, or sitting by the water. Maren is also a professor of dance at Front Range Community College in Westminster. With almost 20 years of professional teaching experience, she loves welcoming beginners to this magical world of dance.

Lee Shaughnessy, Instructor

Lee’s love of dance started early as so many little girls do. Enrolled in ballet in Idaho Falls, she loved the sparkly costumes and fancy hairdos her mom labored to create for her recitals. When she moved as a child back to the California Bay Area, she studied ballet at the Peninsula Ballet Theater School, and like her classmates, was thrilled at occasional glimpses of their most famous student, Mary Catherine Crosby (years before she starred in Dallas as J.R.’s shooter)! Having spent much of her adulthood “freestyling” her dance moves, Lee and her husband accepted an invitation to an introductory ballroom dance lesson, and twelve years and hundreds of dance routines later, she considers herself a committed dance nut! She especially loves the butterflies and anticipation associated with performing in front of an audience, as well as helping others take on their looming “first dances” with a smile. She believes there is nothing better than helping her couples find the sheer delight of dancing with the person they love most at their big event! When she isn’t dancing, Lee is the Program Director for a pediatric health foundation, and loves to cook, bicycle, snowshoe, read, and watch movies, especially if they feature great dancing!

Our Teaching Philosophy

We strive to create a relaxing and encouraging environment in which our clients will have a positive dance experience. We believe that in order to learn efficiently, the client must feel comfortable and safe. Our goal is to help you let go of your inner judge and just enjoy the power of movement and expression through dance. Instead of perfectionism, we encourage our clients to explore and not be afraid to make mistakes. With our infectious enthusiasm, you will gain confidence on the dance floor and have FUN doing so.
