Meet Sarah and Max! This happy couple wed on September 6th, 2014 at the stunning Newseum in Washington, DC. What a gorgeous and unique venue for a wedding. These two were our dancing superstars! We mixed together two of their favorite songs to create a fun and memorable first dance. Check them out and get inspired.
How did you meet the love of your life (in 5 sentences or less)?
We met through our volunteer board work for UNICEF, in Washington, DC. Sarah had just moved to Denver but returned for a board strategy offsite, after which we spent much of the weekend together. Two weeks later, I visited Sarah in Colorado to ski in the Rockies, and the rest is history….
What was your first dance song and why did you pick it?
It was a compilation of two tracks, expertly mixed by Wedding Dance Coach: “Feels like Home” by Chantal Kreviazuk at the beginning and end, and “Safe and Sound” by Capital Cities in the middle.
Why did you choose to take wedding dance lessons?
Because we (Max) needed help, and we wanted our first dance to be choreographed and hopefully a little humorous.
Would you recommend wedding dance lessons?
Yes! It added another wedding planning to-do, but was a commitment that we thought definitely paid off. We did not want to muddle our way through a predictable dance.
What was your favorite moment at your wedding?
Our ceremony, which we customized based on our families and friends. We held it outside on the terrace of The Newseum in full view of The Capitol and several of DC’s other monuments, and managed to avoid a spectacular thunderstorm by about five minutes!
Hindsight is 50/50. What advice would you give to a couple that is in the beginning stages of wedding planning?
